LandSmart® On-the-Ground

LandSmart® On-the-Ground helps grape growers, ranchers and other land managers improve water quality and wildlife habitat on their property. Although LandSmart® is a new program, in practice the RCDs have been working with land managers for decades to implement “smart” conservation projects. On-the-Ground projects achieve resource and land management goals.

How does LandSmart® On-the-Ground achieve resource and land management goals?

The RCDs, in partnership with technical experts, assist land managers with project prioritization, project funding (especially via NRCS-EQIP), designs, CEQA, permitting, project oversight, and contractor oversight, when contractors are necessary for implementation. The RCDs may also offer educational workshops for landowners regarding best management practices, and provide local youth and volunteer groups with opportunities to assist with restoration projects.
